Building a Sustainable Business


The green building industry is the fastest growing sector of the building industry. Understanding how to start, run and grow a business can help young tradies and design professionals kick-start their career.

The world doesn't have time to wait for established businesses to change to sustainability. That's why we're helping keen tradies, builders and designers who understand sustainability get the edge they need to compete.

Being good at your trade or profession is one thing, but understanding business can be an entirely different skill set.

Here at the Green Building Institute we believe in helping and supporting young green building professionals develop the business skills they need to be successful. That's why we've developed a series of on-line modules to help you start a green business professionally, and grow it!


These modules is self-paced, meaning you can start whenever you want, and do as much or as little as you have time for. They are 100% on-line, which means there are absolutely no travel or accommodation costs. All you need is a lap-top or PC with a web-cam. Log-in when it suits you.

The lessons are presented by some of Australia's leading building contractors, lawyers, accountants, and business experts, including Kochie from Seven's Sunrise, WorkCover NSW, Fair Work Australia, Australian Taxation Office, and the The Tradie Web Guys. There are over 200 high quality multi-media lessons that will guide you through the process of building your business professionally. Students have access to one-on-one mentoring from a professional trainer to provide personalised feedback.

  • Business Structures and what will work best for you
  • Quoting, Contracts and Tendering
  • Taxation
  • Legal Requirements and Risk of Small Business
  • Green Marketing and Sales including social media and web-site marketing
  • Customer Service strategies
  • How to recruit, train and manage staff effectively
  • How to create and interpret financial reports, including forecasting
  • Sustainability and Workplace Health and Safety Management

Duration:

Self-paced means you can go as fast or as slow as you want. Allow 2 hours per week over 10 months on average

Cost: $1999

Course Requirements: You must be able to read and write English proficiently, and have access to a laptop with internet connection.
